Lake Wartook is a huge, majestic lake surrounded by the mountain ranges of the Grampians National Park. Located on the MacKenzie River, which is famous for its impressive array of waterfalls (see MacKenzie, Fish and Broken Falls), Lake Wartook is a popular destination for boating and fishing. 

Spend the afternoon fishing for redfin and trout or bring a boat and head out to explore the lake's beautiful Bear Island. Wander along the lake's shore and take in the beautiful scenery, all the while surrounded by the stunning backdrop of mountain ranges across the water.


Information signs at Lake Wartook provide fascinating insights into the history of the reservoir.

Gorgeous views over Lake Wartook can be appreciated while driving through Zumsteins on Mt Victory Road as well as along the walk to The Balconies.

Can you swim at Lake Wartook?


Please note that swimming is not permitted at Lake Wartook. Lake Wartook is the primary water source for Horsham and Natimuk, and is an important resource for the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline's Supply System 6.
